Reformer Pilates: What it is & 5 things you need to know!

Reformer Pilates is quickly becoming one of the new & emerging trends of the century! If you’re like me, you’ve seen it everywhere and you probably have wondered to yourself what the fuss is about, right?

Well, let me tell you there is SO much to love about reformer Pilates, in fact, so much so that I went & got qualified to teach Reformer (I told you there was a lot to love).

In case you’re unsure what I’m talking about, Reformer Pilates is a style of Pilates that’s done using a Pilates Reformer machine and has the ability to be more dynamic & intense then mat work Pilates. This is to do with the springs you’re able to add or take off to each exercise we do on the reformer.  You’ll also know you can do pretty much everything you can do on the mat in reformer Pilates, along with a whole host of additional exercises. Reformer is also particularly great if you have injuries as it really helps us to focus in on those & work the areas of the body that need it most.

Here’s 5 things in particular I want you to know about reformer Pilates

1.    Reformer is great if you’re new to or restarting your fitness or Pilates journey.

This is because, we can easily scale up or scale down all the exercises we do using the springs on the Reformer. Not to mention, you’ll also love the feeling of freely moving your body.

2.    If you have injuries you’re nursing or rehab you nee to do- reformer can help!

This is because you never have to overload the body when performing exercises. As mentioned, your springs will take on the load of your body weight when needed!

3.    Reformer Pilates is also excellent for strength training

If you’re wanting got improve your strength, trust me, the reformer is going to be your best friend. Exercises like front rows, open the windows, Triceps, Biceps, our ab series are all things we can do on the reformer to get you feeling strong- fast!

4.    It’s not just your core that’s getting a workout- unlike Matwork which does have a strong focus on ab work & activation, Reformer Pilates gives you the ability to work multiple muscles groups at once.

In a series, we can work out abs, legs, arms & shoulder muscles all with one movement. The hand & foot straps you find will be your new best friends!

5.    Oh man, you’ll find new flexibility you didn’t even know you had when doing Reformer Pilates.

One thing I’ve loved personally from Reformer Pilates is finding new ways of challenging my flexibility as there are so many epic stretches we’re able to do when using the reformer including ones for our glutes, inner thighs, lats & more

So, if you’re now keen to try Reformer Pilates in 2022, I’ll be launching Live reformer Pilate’s classes in the Wollondilly area from mid January.

If you want to find out more & add your name to the waitlist, please add your email address to this form & you’ll be the first to hear from me when details land!
